What a fantastic piece of writing and a touching tribute to Mr. Leone. His photos are an incredible document of Sicily and there’s something timeless about his style. His documentary style approach to wedding photography is actually what I’d want at my (hypothetical) wedding. I visited Sicily for the first time last summer and instantly fell in love. We spent most of our stay on the island of Salina, but Ragusa is on my list for the next visit. Thank you for this!

He clearly left a mark on you. What a wonderful man and his photography is very human.

As do I…. Archives are funny things. Sometimes family members step in, but with no grounding in photography they lose steam and trouble starts. Those with no relatives are often in trouble out of the gate. A few smart photographers take care of things before they die. Shelby Lee Adams has done a great job. Others, less so…..

Thank you! He was a great photographer. World famous in Sicily, is the way I would put it. I would say Italy is slowly discovering his work. He shows up at auctions from time to time, but he is a long way from the international recognition that I think he deserves!!

I’ll explore the website later. I’ve been to Sicily in 2015, have a Sicilian friend and read a great book about its history last year so I’m very curious to know more.
